APPROVED: Parts 2 & 3 of CARB Mandate Amendments

This past week, the Office of Administrative Law approved Parts 2 and 3 of CARB’s emissions reduction legislation – potentially affecting fleet requirements as early as January 2012.

Part 2’s amendments affect a variety of tractor trailers and go into effect on January 11th of 2012. While the requirements of Part 2 should be reviewed by fleet managers and truck owners, the earliest compliance deadlines for these requirements don’t occur until the start of 2013.

The challenging requirements occur in Part 3, which went into effect immediately. In Part 3 amendments, many fleets containing vehicles with a GVWR over 26,000 pounds would be required to come into compliance or start phasing-in CARB compliant emissions devices as early as January 2012. The earliest compliance date for vehicles with less than 26,000 GVWR is the start of 2015. Fleets consisting of 3 or fewer trucks also receive different treatment.

I’ve linked to some of the pertinent documents above and you can see more documentation on the CARB website amendments page there is also more information provided on our CARB information website. If you’re not sure your fleet will be affected, please feel free to contact us and we can assist you with your CARB compliance needs.

Thanks and happy holidays!

Welcome! Thanks for visiting our CARB Insights blog!

As Regulatory Affairs Manager at Engine Control Systems (ECS), I frequently meet with California Air Resources Board representatives to discuss emissions mandates, their effects on fleet operations and other important issues.

As specialists in CARB mandate compliance, we’d like to use this forum to provide you with ongoing updates relative to our frequent communications with CARB and help provide insights on how they could potentially affect the daily operations of your fleet.

Our goal is to help educate fleet managers and owners regarding the requirements of CARB legislation, which is one of the reasons we created our CARB‐specific educational website at www.CARBcompliance.info.
